[X4U] Scanning slides

I installed Vuescan. I must be doing something wrong. The pictures  
scanned look like a slide instead of a picture. and it only scanned 2  
even though I had 4 slides in the scanner. Do I have to purchase to  
get it to scan 4 slides? It gives me lots of options which I am not  
familiar with.
