It is zero configuration networking and should stay around forever (open standard).

Depends on color or not and how much you want to spend. I bought a Brother 2550sonething for 200. B&W laser very nice. Color lasers more expensive. Will not buy another inkjet, ink too expensive and cartridges dry out quickly.
