[X4U] Disk Erase failed

hi

i have a lacie little disk that i use as a backup when i'm on the road. when i came back from my last photography trip, i was unable to copy any images from it. this wasn't a problem since it was only a back-up.

but when i tried to format it with disk utility, i got an error:

"Disk Erase failed. Disk Erase failed with the error: POSIX reports: The operation couldn't be completed. Cannot allocate memory"

now the drive doesn't appear on the desktop and is therefore inaccessible.

i've tried on other macs and windows machines, without any results

i've done a bit of googling and posts on the apple forums seem to blame OS 10.5 and 10.6…

any ideas? tips? solutions?
