IOS Safari will only be able to access MobileMe email if Apple reverses a policy. At the moment there must be special code in IOS Safari to make it switch over to IOS Mail on hitting the webmail site. When I last checked, it did the equivalent when you browse to Google maps - it switched to the Maps app. It looks like a deliberate policy thing. It's a real problem for me when I visited a particular holiday complex where IMAP is filtered out. (Or it was until the WiFi died on my 2nd hand SIM-less iPhone :-) ).
