[X4U] Adjust audio/video sync in avi file?

Hi all,

I've been given an old AVI file from 2003 to include on a website but there's a problem with it. I'm trying to track down the person who originally shot the video to see if they still have the original file but I'm not too hopeful. When I view the video in either Quicktime or VLC the video and audio tracks don't sync up. The audio is about 3 seconds behind the video. Is there anything I can do to fix this without having to purchase expensive software?
