In Snow Leopard, the Address Book application has a "find duplicates" function which will merge all duplicate records. If the same feature is available in Lion, it seems like a simple procedure to Find Duplicates your Mac, merge the duplicates, then sync the changes with iCloud. Or doesn't it work that way?
