there has been a lot of useful discussion of scrollbar issues: > >Or, sometimes when reading text or looking through a list of >items/lines it's more efficient to click in the scrollbar area >because then you get an exact one page movement. It's actually >amazing how many people don't realize that. At work, I see people >trying to scroll through long list on a desktop computer without a >trackball. They try to pull the scrollbar tab thing gingerly along >as they scan down the page. > >Then, I show them that all they have to do is click in the scrollbar >slot itself, and it will jump one page at a time and they won't miss >anything. They are always amazed..... My question in 10.6.8 is that in some apps, eg Word, TextWrangler, finder (a folder with a lot of documents, in list view) (but not firefox, eudora) , clicking in the down arrow gently moves the text up at a constant rate at which I can follow with my eyes, as I am looking for a particular spot in the document. Then the app (or the OS) figures it knows better than I do and starts scrolling fast, too fast for the eye to follow. Is there any way to disable this? It is not fixed in preferences as far as I can tell. Seems to be app specific. Which is strange for such a universal function as scrolling. thanks -steve
