You were right.. Could not use printer, scanner digital camera  None  
of the USB connection on my hub or on the computer were working. I  
repaired permissions. Powered off waited about 15 minutes and powered  
up. Same
thing. Next day I restarted the computer and everything is back. Was  
able to back up on ext drives.

Lucky I didn't trash the drives.
