[X4U] Free iPhone 5

I've read that Verizon is selling unlocked iPhone 5's. I am not sure the version of the iPhone they sell works in Europe, though. And are you sure it is cheaper here? My understanding is the carriers are subsidizing the cost of the phones here. So to purchase the phone without a contract may be a bit different than with a 24 month contract.
