Al,
Yes, by all means.
I bought the 2nd edition of the MacMini Intel Core Duo (late 2006). My Apple employee friend convinced me to buy AppleCare. Boy, was I glad I did. The logic board failed after the first 5 months. Apple replaced it at no charge and replaced the top of the case at my request because it came back all scratched up. It won't run Lion, but it still runs great on 10.6.8 and I'm using it to write this.

I also replaced the OEM 160 GB hard drive with a 320 GB, not because the original failed, I just wanted a bigger drive. I put the 160 in an external enclosure that fits in my shirtpocket. I use it as an emergency startup drive when I work on friends' machines.

My second machine is a MacBookPro from June 2011. I bought AppleCare for that also. Thus far, I have not needed to file any claims for that Mac. It runs like a champ. By it's very nature of being a portable computer, I would ALWAYS buy AppleCare for a laptop.

In my opinion, AppleCare is worth it.
John

Having problems with present set up. Had to erase HD and reinstall. Thinking of purchasing a 21.5 in apple . Is it worth buying the three year service plan?
