I have a need for greater than 24Gb of RAM (how much my late 2010 Mac Pro currently has), and I need LOTS of disk space. There is no indication on how much the new Mac Pro costs, or what RAM for it will cost, BUT, even a Thunderbolt Array that gives me as much capacity as my current Mac Pro is *EXPENSIVE*. Who knows what a Thunderbolt 2 array will cost, or when they'll be available. There are also no expansion slots, and I've used the expansion slots in every Mac I've owned except the Powerbook 520c. Right now I have 4 internal drives, 2 external eSATA drives, and a Drobo. Having moved to a 36MP Nikon D800 I find myself chewing through disk space like crazy. Since leaving the PC and except for my first Mac (PowerBook 520c), I've gone with the high end systems; PowerMac 8500/180, original G4/450, original dual 2Ghz G5 PowerMac, and now late-2010 Mac Pro. I'd planned to replace my existing system with a Mac Pro when the time comes. Now, I fear I'll be forced to either go with a low-end Mac, or go PC. >:-( Apple might want to consider that thanks to the Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe users like myself have more flexibility to switch between Mac and PC.
