You can protect your privacy by not loading remote images contained in messages you receive. In addition, when you don't load remote images, messages download more quickly. To not display remote images: 1. Choose Mail > Preferences and click Viewing. 2. Deselect the "Display remote images in HTML messages" checkbox. Now when you receive a message that includes remote images, a banner across the top of the message indicates there are unloaded images, which you can choose to load.
