Using the T68i for data connection with ATT using voice minutes

Someone please tell me I'm not crazy. Or perhaps that things have changed.

Last October I purchased and used a T68i with ATT service to connect to the web using some modem scripts that I found on the net. I'd swear that I'd done this using my voice minutes to dial into my ISP.

Now I'm hearing from others that ATT blocks use of this from their system and that I can't do it.

Did I really accomplish this last October?

Can it still be done?
