Burning DVD Data and Noisy Internal Readers

I just bought a LaCie D2 DVD burner and I noticed that when it reads
the data DVDs I burned at 2X of 4.1 Gigs of JPEGS, that is is very
quiet. My TiBook combo drive chunks away when I click on a folder
filled with jpegs and it begins reading the files and doing its thing.

The very first CD I inserted a number of years ago sounded like a
helicopter taking off.

So, I tested this DVD on various Macs and noticed that various CD
readers are quieter than others. For instance, the 14" iBook I tested
is a lot quieter than my TiBook.

The LaCie burner has the new A105 drive and it is faster and quieter.
It burns the 2X DVD in about 25 minutes. I think the original iMac G4
burner took about an hour.

Has anyone burned a data DVD with the new PowerBook G4? How did it go?

Now if I can just get enough courage to burn all of my photos to a DVD
and then free up all of that hard drive space...

The US Army is destroying 31,500 tons of nerve agents and highly toxic
blister agents at a projected cost of $24 Billion Dollars. Someone
suggested they could make money selling it on eBay under the Weapons of
Mass Destruction category.
