Wonky CD-ROM

Hello folks,
 I've got a 600 MHz iBook with a CD-Rom drive.  For months now any time I
insert a CD the CD tray spits the CD back out at me six or seven times
before it finally accepts it and starts spinning.  Doesn't matter what kind
of CD: data, games, music, CD-ROM, CD-RW, CD-R, etc.  Every single time.
Push it in, it pops right back out.  Can't figure it out.  When it finally
takes the CD, it works fine.  Any Clues?
