Assuming that osx is running on nthe machine, use system profiler to check
what drive is in there ... And then use that table to find out if you can
"alter" it (which will void the long time gone warranty anyway :)

I just found out this way that my Matshita UJ 815 drive has no firmware
patch available .. So .. I am out of luck ..

Beware that you can render your drive useless when updating the firmware ..
Read everything before you act!!!
