Pat, The screen saver being on is not the same as sleeping. The presence of the screen saver indicates that the mac is NOT sleeping. Sleep mode turns off the screen, hard disk, and CPU (I believe - but someone more knowledgable than I about mac hardware will have to answer that I'm afraid. :-) BTW - the cron jobs that run at night (daily, weekly, monthly) can be edited to run at a time when your iBook isn't likely to be sleeping if it's more convenient for you.
