I'm using Image Capture to grab the images, and Extensis Portfolio 6.1
to manage the resulting files. Image capture, you may or may not know,
is a part of OS X (I certainly didn't know about it!). For me its
advantage over iPhoto is that it allows me to specify colour profile
information on a file as it's imported. I don't think iPhoto does this.
Portfolio is a third product and as such costs money, and it's probably
overkill for anything but a pro with thousands of images. Nonethelss
that was my choice, and I'm happy with it.
