The computer drives the RAM at the speed it wants, so the RAM either works at that speed or doesnt. "Faster" RAM is guaranteed to work at faster speeds than "slower" RAM. Just cuz you pop it into your computer, doesn't make the RAM accesses any faster. Don't spend more moeny on RAM that is faster than your machine can handle. If it is cheaper, you are probably ok (but as someone said earlier, not all RAM is backwards compatible).
