It's a LOOOOONG story, but in a nutshell, the creators of WinAmp actually created MacAmp FIRST, but went where the money/fame/glory was ... at present there isn't really a version of MacAmp anymore. The current reigning champ of non-iTunes MP3 players is Audion, by Panic Software (www.panic.com).
