Need Help getting LW 16/600 to work

Using OSX 10.2, two iBooks and first generation airport.

Have connected a ebay deal 16/600 Apple Laser Writer via ethernet to my
airport but can't seem print to it.

The airport is setup for dialup access and I have the network tab configured
for DHCP.

On the book - I used the 'print center' to add the printer using the ip
address from the printer's startup page. I've tried rendevous - but it never
sees it.

When I try to print it starts looking for the printer but never finds it.

When I ping the printer with the 'network utility', it usually reports back
great - as long as I'm connected to the internet.  Do I need to adjust the
printer's IP address?? How do I do that?
