Mine is also a 600 and I've never heard the fan. Well, I've never heard it and thought "wow, that's loud". My friend's powerbook makes a hell of a racket when the fan is on, it sounds like a hair dryer. By contrast, my 600 iBook is near silent. I still can't tell if the sound I hear when it's on is the HD spinning or the fan running. It's almost quiet enough for a starring role in U572: America Rewires History Again. I work it quite hard too, often with apps like photoshop and I've never had it make any more noise than it does when it's sitting idle and cold.
