What I always tell people Jack, is that you have to look at what you'll be doing with the machine, then look at your budget. if you are just looking for a laptop with a 17" monitor, then do you really want to pay and extra thousand for it. Then of course, I would have to advise you on your preference of platform. Its not an easy decision to make, I know. But if it doesn't really matter, then put the grand in your pocket or use it towards more ram, that always helps, no matter what kind of machine you use.
