[P1] Query about 14" iBooks

Well, I'm using a clamshell iBook which contains so much extra plastic
around the edges that its probably the same size or slightly larger than the
14" iBook. 

You sound like you are a fan of small laptops. I am too, as I also have a
Powerbook Duo 230, which is about the size of one of the new 12" iBooks. I
much prefer this size and shape. It is more portable, feels a naturally
better size and is more pleasing to me.

If I were you, I would stick with the 12" iBook. The whole idea of a laptop
for me is that its to be small, light and unobtrusive. I'd go for the little
guy. :)
