ATA 66/ ATA 100 & firewire external cases??

One of the deals I took advantage of Friday was a 200 GB HD on sale for $99
(after two rebates). Since my iBook is to small for a full size drive :),
and my tower is a dual 800 ATA 66, I knew I couldn't use it as an internal
drive. I planned to use an older external firewire drive case I had and use
it as an external drive. When I hooked it up of course I was disappointed
that it would only format as a 120 GB drive. Is this an external enclosure
issue or is my older hardware (iBook and Quicksilver Tower) the problem?
