[P1] OS9 compatibility on latest models?

Sorry for this double post,

Its just that I'm happy I can use OS7 software on my current iBook, and I
was hoping Apple weren't going to be bastards about this and scupper any
backwards compatibility after a certain point.

I was led to believe that Apple were going to make all their machines OSX
only from now on and that OS9 and earlier software simply wouldn't run on
it. I just wanted clarification that this isn't the case.
