Ah ha, is it to the right of Help? I have that on my iBook, but not my iMac. i thought it was associated with some font freeware program I played with a while back, but it seems to be Apple's own. Click on the pallet and pick Customize Menu. It will bring up the System Preference with Language, Time, Date, etc. Go to Input Menu and you will see that Character Palette is checked on. Uncheck it and it disappears. Kewl .....
