It doesn't effect *all* external Firewire drives; but there have been a number of incidents where drives has been corrupted when connected during startup. So it's best to have a back-up of any critical data (which is never a bad idea, anyway.) You can still use the drive; just don't leave it connected *during* startup. BRIAN/bpearce at cloud9.net
