Lexmark X83 & Panther

Now that I installed Panther, I can no longer use my Lexmark 
X83/copy/print/scan unit
with my iBook 700/CD/640/20.
According to Lexmark, they are working on a driver for this model.
It is not available yet - I was told.
Since this is no longer a current model, I'm not expecting much.
Does anyone know of a generic driver or workaround?
I'd rather not spend more $ for ANOTHER printer.
