You could also try a cross-over ethernet cable ($5-10 at most computer 
stores) and directly plug into the wireless router with your laptop and 
use the default address.

What brand is the wireless device?  The few that I have seen came with 
a USB port and proprietary software to configure them with... and the 
software Windows only....
