[iBook] iPhoto sluggish

iPhoto has always been sluggish on my 600 iBook, a lot slower than on 
the 350 iMac, but recently it has gotten so slow that it is almost 
unusable. Besides that, sometimes simple operations like deleting an 
unwanted photo or moving to the next photo using the arrow key just 
don't work at all, but then sometimes they do. I wonder if I simply 
have too many photos in the Library, using up all the memory. The whole 
computer drags if iPhoto is open, every operation takes seconds to 
minutes of spinning beach ball.

Do I need to move the Library to a separate folder and make a new 
Library, or what?
