[iBook] Charter Communications v. Bell South

My father-in-law is heading home to the Charlotte, NC suburbs with the 
new iBook (and Airport Express) I helped him purchase. He's got Charter 
Communication cable service for his TV.
Do any of you have experience with the quality of Charter 
Communications broadband, or with Bell South DSL service?
Mac friendliness would be a bonus (this is his first computer -- I have 
a feeling I'm be talking to him more often in the next couple months 
than the past 21 years).
