Well, the problem DOES seem to have abated. A few weeks ago it asked 
for my password 5 or 6 times in a row before I gave up and tried a few 
hours later. Now it only happens once every couple of days, and it goes 
through right away. I can live with that. It would have to have a 
serious period of malfunction for your suggestions to tell me anything. 
Thanks for the good info, though. I'll keep it handy for next time.
