optical drive frustration

I have experienced the same problems with my 12.1" ibook 600 running OS 
10.2.8. The problem seems to be aggravated by CDs that are close to the 
maximum space available on the disc, with the last few tracks being 
affected the most. At this point I have skirted the issue by first 
importing all the song tracks into itunes (version 4.2) as AIFFs from 
my external CD-RW and then burning a new disc. I haven't experienced 
any problems with data CDs, but I haven't tried to boot from the 
internal drive since this behavior has appeared. I'll investigate a 
little further and let you know what I find.
