FWIW, I just today set up a wired Linksys router BEFSR41 with Verizon DSL for someone, and it was absolutely easy. Set up a Location (OS 10.3.2, PowerMac G4) DHCP wired ethernet; plug router into DSL modem, then into PMG4; browse to router (using iCab browser, not even M$ IE); change router's default WAN setting from DHCP to be PPPoE, and enter the DSL account name and password; Oh, Gee, it all works :-) . The DSL account is dynamic IP from Verizon. Router presently serving DHCP to 2 Macs and a Win98 unit without problems (enabling us to spend like 4 hours cleaning many viruses/worms from the Win98 unit, my acquaintance's original question to me a couple of weeks ago having been "Why might be a reason why these Window$ units so slow?" >_[ ) I've set up a couple of Linksys wired router models with a different major DSL provider in another state, and they were as easy, after that provider got its act together about having their modem and their service provided as advertised. I did have to use IE browser to set up one of the units, which had one different page with an apparently badly written javascript that iCab didn't handle well.
