How is the icebook screen put together ??

I am wondering since I think I see the first signs on aging on my 500 mhz
dual USB icebook (first model after clamshell ever)

It seems to me .. And I may be crudely childish in this .. That the screen
is illuminated by mini neon tubes which are on top and bottom of the screen
...

So ... No, one, which is will mark as X seems to be dead .. As that sector
of the screen is now noticably darker ... Albeit still not too annoying ..

Is there anything to that theory or may that be something very else /
fixable .. 

I am happy to say that my ancient clamshell (hey, Dan :)  is still working
superfine
