[iBook] iBook Video Mirroring

I have a dual USB G3 500 withg 10.3.6 and am trying to connect a Mac 1705
CRT Monitor to it for a trade show.  The monitor has a VGA adapter
connecting it to the VGA thingy connecting it to the Video Out port.  No
picture and the Monitor remains in Sleep Mode.  System Profiler tells me
mirroring is off.  I believed that mirroring is automatic.  How do I turn it
on?
