[ibook] Read - Write permissions screwed up?

After I upgraded my iBook 500 to OS X 10.2.8, soon I started getting
read/write permission errors for the first time ever.  I only have one
main account on the iBook that is an admin.  The problem has started on
normal data files and getting prompts that I won't be able to make
changes. 
 
I can do a Get Info on the files and make sure everything is set to
"Read/Write", but it seems like a "system" account now owns many of the
files instead of "my name" account.
 
I've tried repairing disk permissions, but it still seems to persist.
