I haven't used their service for a couple of years, but when I was traveling more frequently, I had very good experiences with BamNet: http://www.bamnet.com You prepay for a certain number of minutes (rates range between 4.5 and 6.5 cents depending upon the quantity of minutes you buy), and you use their toll free numbers for accessing the Internet. If you are outside the continental USA, access is still available, but you lose 4 minutes of time for every minute you use. The minutes never expire, and there's no monthly fee. The service works with any device that has a modem and can understand PPP, so Windows, Mac, Linux, and PDA systems are all fair game. I have no affiliation with the company, and like I said, I haven't even used the service for a couple of years. But I was a very satisfied customer back then, and if I had the same needs now, I would sign up with them again. I hope I can help out a fellow iBook list member! - Mike W.
