Michael,

It certainly sounds more like a hardware and not a software issue.  Be
warned, though: I recently discovered (heard) that if you upgraded
that iBook in Taiwan the upgraded parts may only be covered by the
warranty IN Taiwan.

This is only gossip I heard, your mileage may vary.
