Usually the symptoms described are usually caused by either loose connections or the cable to the LCD or the logic board. Other times this behavior is caused by frayed cables that either have or are intermittently failing. If the problem is the former it would require both the shell of the screen and the main body of the iBook to be disassembled and have the connections reseated.
