Faxing was virtually impossible on the first iterations of OSX. Somewhere around the Jaguar era I discovered PageSender, and suddenly I could send and receive the occasional fax again. That continued thru Panther, but now, in Tiger, the built in faxing is greatly improved, and I don't even use PageSender any more. It's not as good as it once was in OS9, but for occasional usage, it seems fine to me.
