I have 640MB in my iBook 500, which was the max when the iBook 500 was introduced. But I was curious if a 1GB chip had been invented yet for that type (which I think it has) and if anyone has tried it. The iBook 500 has 128MB on the motherboard, so a 1GB chip would bring it up to 1.1GB. Don't know if it was the best price, but I believe that when it comes to ram especially, it pays to get quality. They provided plenty of support also. And by the way, if you want to run panther on this machine, max ram is a must.
