Howdy, I was running 10.3.9 on my ibook 12" 800, 640mb RAM when I upgraded to Tiger. talking about speed is difficult. I think that the graphics in tiger are noticeably better than Panther - they've included substantial modifications to the graphics rendering engine, which allows greater offloading of graphics computations from the CPU to the GPU (video card) - this frees the CPU for other tasks. However, I have noticed that I get the beachball a bit more than I did with Panther. I think this is because there are some optimisations yet to be released. I've just upgraded to 10.4.1 (20 mins ago - without problems), and this may have yielded a speed increase, but I can't say yet. Having said all this, Tiger is a *big* advance on Panther, IMO. The pervasive implementation of Spotlight is fantastic, and dashboard is very cool. I think it's a worthwhile upgrade. My philosophy is - if you're gonna upgrade sometime, do it now and get the benefits sooner! ;-) HTH, -Angus On 17/05/2005, at 9:42 AM, Risha Moonshadow wrote: > I've seen lots of comments about better performance > with Tiger, what I'm wondering is what each of you > were running before.
