There are terrific take-apart instructions at http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/ with generally good advice about how to avoid particular pitfalls (such as how to remove the trackpad ribbon clamp--a procedure that about gave me a heart attack the first time I did it because I thought I'd broken it; I wasn't using the ifixit guide that time). And here's a tip for keeping track of screws: Before you start the procedure, glance through the instructions and print any page that shows a lot of screws to be removed. Then, as you remove screws, tape them to the correct spot in the photo. When you put it back together, reversing your way back through the ifixit instructions, it's easy to find which screw goes where. I've taken apart two different iBooks now (no broken plastics; both 'Books feeling fine) and found a decent tool for taking the bottom case off is a discarded credit-card-style ID. I cut one side at an angle so one end was just about a half-inch wide, and then I used the narrow end to slide around the corners. As Stephen reports, separating the case pieces without > breaking too much of the plastic is a challenge. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Joy Freeman ~ from manuscript to bound book ~ Editorial, Design, and Production Services joy at pagesbyjoy.com
