[iBook] Asking for advice about a CD Combo drive

I have an iBook 600MHz,14,1 inch, running OS 10.3.9. Following an Epson 
Perfection Scanner 3200 upgrade, which I could not put to work, I went 
in front and back with the upgrade. With despair I tried to install the 
software from the original CD. The installation was running well, but 
suddenly it gave an error like this, I think "Installation error, It can 
not read the file". After that, froze for a long while, and I don't 
remember if I have done anything meanwhile to try to solve the problem.

What I know is after that I am not able to see any CD applications, DVD, 
audio CD. I am not able to use optical drive. I have done several things 
for solving the issue, like reset the PRAM, starting from the original 
CD, repairing permissions. What I note was that if I put Disc one from 
the installation software 10.3 I listen some sound like it wants to 
start, but the starting comes always from the Hard disk.

I would be very grateful for any help to solve this issue.
