I find the old standard of keeping the screen an arms's length away from
your eyes works well for me.

I'm finding 2GB on my 2.8GHz 24" iMac is enough, though I might upgrade
someday to get that little bit of extra performance... *is utterly broke
after just buying this Mac* ...still, it's FAR from necessary. 2Gb is
FINE.
