iPod update 1.4 kills 'soundcheck'?

Al,

I can't say that soundcheck has ever worked very well for me at all.  
 From what I have read it has never worked well for anyone.  It does a 
decent job on the computer, but not on the iPod.  My iPod is just a 
little newer, a 20GB that was the first to have a solid state wheel.  
My computer is a Powerbook G4 400 running the latest Panther update.
