[iTunes] sound volume

I am having some trouble getting much volume out of some of the CDs  
that I load while others are quite loud. I think it might be the ones  
that I copy over from my big machine via a network. Everything on my  
laptop is set to have the volume up as loud as possible.  Any ideas  
about this. I like to listen to books or newspaper while I'm in the  
bath and can't listen on my iPod.
