It erased everything and then RESTORED the data as the name implies. Unless there is an additional instruction you failed to include, "just hit restore" won't do it. But it appears that Steve Martin's reply: "Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings" IS producing the desired result. By the bye, I am selling this unit through Gazelle.com and their instructions included a request that I remove the SIM card. They assured me they would wipe the phone clean of all data, but I wanted to assure it was done properly. Thanks to all who have responded.
